A bad day with autism
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Alex pours milk down the sink … asks for pizza/chicken/hot dogs in a restaurant, then won’t eat them … refuses to sit at the table with us. Sometimes it’s typical 8-year-old behavior; sometimes it’s autism. Whatever it is, it’s frustrating. Especially on a long weekend. Here’s how we cope.

I love your Specials. We live in the UK and have two children with high functioning autism, 8 and nearly 4. We decided to home educate them due to the way the education system works here and special needs are catered for, if that is the correct term. It is going quite well so far, though it is challenging. best regards

Have you ever thought about the GFCF diet? Autistic kids tend to have over active Glutamate receptors, and giving milk (albeit poured down the sink!) is like adding petrol to a fire.

Dear Eric:
Many thanks. It’s something we’d love to get to. A lot of people think Alex just hates milk. I hope that’s true, and I hope he can tell me so in words someday.
Thanks for listening. Are you in the UK?

We’re all in the same boat in a lot of ways, that’s for sure!
